Review Week 6

What is the pen tool used for?
It is used to create countless lines, curves and shapes and serves as the building block for illustration.
How can you manipulate a path/line in Illustrator? Discuss the use of the white arrow tool, pen+, pen-, and convert too.
The tool is used by creating anchor points, and then by connecting those points with lines, which can be created further to make shapes. The white arrow tool helps move the paths in a different direction or put the anchor in a new place to get the desired curve, you can use the pen+ tool to add an anchor, and the pin- tool deletes anchors.
How can you utilize the layers palette in Illustrator?
layers help the designer work with small pieces of work at the same time.without getting confused and going over your other pieces of work.
How do you create a clipping mask in Adobe Illustrator?
-you make a shape with no fill no color and put it on the top layer.
-select everything options >> clipping mask >> make.

Review Week 5

For each of the 5 elements of design (shape, line, texture, space, value), find an example that utilizes each element within the design (Google search for poster design, advertisements, etc). You should have 5 DIFFERENT sample designs. For each, evaluate the design in 4 to 5 sentences. Label each with the appropriate element. Then, discuss how that particular element is used and how it enhances the design.

shade
This picture is created useing all types of shapes.Shape is one of the basic elements of design. Alone or in combination with other shapes or lines they can. convey universal meanings as well as guide the eye or organize information.Shape is an area that is contained.within an implied line, or is seen and identified because of color or value changes.Shapes have two. dimensions, length and width, and can be geometric or free-form (organic). Design in painting is basically the planned arrangement of shapes in a work of art.

Line

This picture is all kinds of lines, it has movement as well.A line is a form with width and length, but no depth. Artists use lines to create edges, the outlines of objects. A line is created by the movement of the artist's pen. Lines of the same general appearance or lines that are quite different can form a variety of patterns that create textures, suggest movement, or lead the eye - the same as single lines. Since lines can be straight, curved, or irregularly shaped, you can also think of a line as the track of a point in motion. Vertical lines can stop eye movement. Horizontal lines symbolize rest and relaxation. Diagonal lines are dynamic and action-oriented. Lines, like points, can direct attention to a specific location in a visual image.
Texture

This picture show a texture, its like i could touch it and be able to feel it.Texture is the surface quality of an object. We experience texture when we touch objects and feel their roughness, smoothness or patterns. Texture is the artist's way of mapping these tactile impressions on to the two-dimensional picture. Texture is created by varying the pattern of light and dark areas on an object. Notice how the areas of light and dark give the impression of depth to the image above.Texture is what gives a design the feeling of a surface. It is the tactile sense of the elements in the design. In Web design, texture is visual, but it provides the illusion of physical texture. Some common textures are: rough, smooth, hard, and soft.
Space

This picture has space which creates the image. In elements of design space is the area between and around objects. Increasing or decreasing the amount of space around an object or within a design affects the way we view that object or the whole composition.Space refers to the area that a shape or form occupies. It also refers to the background against which we see the shape or form. Space can be defined as positive and negative. The positive space of a design is the filled space in the design, often it is the shapes that make up the design. Negative space is the background. The negative space in design is as important as the positive area.

Value
This picture shows a dark and light contrast in different areas. which helps represent the picture and its meaning and value. Value is the relative degree of lightness and darkness in a design element.Value is used to describe objects, shapes, and space.Dark areas tend to denote gloom, mystery, drama, menace. Light areas tend to denote happiness, fun, gaiety, warmth, closeness. Value refers to the relative lightness or darkness of a certain area. Value can be used for emphasis. Variations in value are used to create a focal point for the design of a picture. A light figure on a dark background will be immediately recognized as the center of attention, similarly for a dark figure on a mostly white background. Gradations of value are also used to create the illusion of depth. Areas of light and dark can give a three-dimensional impression, such as when shading areas of a person's face.

Review Week 4

Why/how can icons be used to communicate?
useing images to state a place or object to easly comuunicate what that is to veiwers. it also can reprisent an action.

Via the internet, find 2 examples of common icons that clearly communicate their message. Post both in this entry.

girl/boys restroom
stop sign
What is the difference between copyright and public domain?
copyright is peoples work that is protected and if you take it you will be plagarizing and can be fined. public domain Openly available to everyone and not protected.

How can you avoid plagairism in this class? In other classes?
put it in your own words, dont just chang a few words put the entire thing in your own words. but with pictures do not just paste the picture and put your name down, design the image just by looking at it do not paste anyones work and call it your own. >.<

Podcast #1 Elements of Design

Podcast #1 Elements of Design
Watch the podcast. Answer the review questions below. Keep the question italicized and the answer regular.

What does it take to create good graphic design?
Requires a understanding of the elements and principles of graphic design.

What is the difference between elements and principles?
Elements: are the components or parts which can be solated in any visual design or work of art their the acual things we add to a design.
Principles:tell us how we should organize elements on a page or screan.

Name the six (6) elements of design.
Line, shape or form, space, texture, value, color.

What can lines aid in, when alone or combined with  other lines or shapes?
Readability, appearance, and message of design.

Which lines suggest a feeling of rest? Why do you think?
Horizontal suggest a feeling of rest in reation to gravity. Beacause its flat like its laying

Vertical lines communicate a feeling of what? Why do you think?
Communicate a feeling of loftiness gives a modern feel.

What lines suggest a feeling of movement? Why do you think?
Diagonal it looks as if something can move up and down it.

Soft, shallow curved lines suggest what? Why do you think?
Curved it seems as if its rapping around the other object ( peacful).

These lines suggest confusion and turbulence? Why do you think?
Deep acute curves the lines go around and around making you confused.

What element defines a specific area of space?
Shape

What is the difference between two dimensional shapes and three dimensional shapes?
2D: shape has width and height. 3D shape has depth as well as witdth and height.

Describe the difference between geometric shapes and organic shapes?
Geometric shapes are structured, often symmetrical shapes. Organic are found in nature or they can be man made shapes.

What are abstract shapes?
Are stylized or simplified versions of natural shapes.

Which basic shape projects an attitude of honesty or equality?
Square

What do triangles suggest?
Action

Circles convey feelings of what?
Protection or infinity

Describe positive space and negative space?
Positive referse to the object and elements used in a design. Negitive referse to the shapes around and between those objects and elements.

What is texture?
Refer to the actual surface of a desighn with the reader actually being able to feel the texture of the paper and materials in the printed design. Also can be implied through the use of rich, layered graphics designed to give the illusion of texture in a two dimensional design.

Incorporating texture into a design can help do what?
Create a feeling of richness and depth.

What is value?
Is the degree of light and dark in a design. It is the contrast between black and white and all the tones in between

What is another name for value?
tone

What can the element of color do when incorporated into a design?
Create images attract attention and identify objects.

Intro Goals

Why did you take this class?
i took this class because i wanted to learn how to design on the computer instead of just paper.
What goals do you have for the class?
i want to fulling understan design with working with computer.

Review Week 3

What is OSHA? What do the letters stand for?
Occupational Safety and Health Act, was created to provide U.S. workers with a safe working environment.

How can graphic designers effectively communicate? In your own words, explain the communication process.
1)to figure out what need to say and how to present it...research.
2)establish how the visuals (text and images) are going to work together and how they will motivate the audience.
3)evaluating to make sure everything goes together and states the message.

Understanding the history, culture and movements of fine and graphic arts will make you a better producer of visual messages. Why? because the earlierst known art was beautiful and functional, probably serving rituals, magical, and social perposes. Creates an example of the earliest human connection for us today and perhaps mark the first merging of fine and applied art. it is good to know the history to help us be better designers ourselves.
